BAFANA BAFANA: Squad for Durban camp announced

Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto has ended days of speculation when he finally released the 29 names of the local-based players that will assemble for camp in Durban.

The camp is part of the team's preparations for 2010 FIFA World Cup. this could be viewed as the last big opportunity for the PSL-based players to stake their claim for teh final squad that will welcome the world.

Bafana will play a training match against Swaziland on January 23 at the Chatsworth Stadium and then host Zimbabwe at the new Moses Mabhida Stadium on January 27 in a full international.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Emile Baron (SuperSport United), Moeneeb Josephs (Orlando Pirates), Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs)

Defenders: Matthew Booth, Siboniso Gaxa, Luvhengo Mungomeni, Innocent Mdledle, Siyanda Xulu (all Mamelodi Sundowns), Morgan Gould, Bongani Khumalo (both SuperSport), Happy Jele, Lucas Thwala (both Pirates), Siyabonga Sangweni (Golden Arrows)

Midfielders: Andile Jali, Teko Modise (both Pirates), Lance Davids (Ajax Cape Town), Franklyn Cale, Matthew Pattison (both Sundowns), Daine Klate (SuperSport), Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane (both Chiefs), Thabo Nthethe, Tlou Segolela (both Bloemfontein Celtic)

Strikers: Gert Schalkwyk (Pirates), Katlego Mphela (Sundowns), Richard Henyekane (Arrows), Thulani Serero (Ajax CT), Thulasizwe Mbuyane (Pirates).

Not convinced about the strikers, but I'm happy with the rest of the guys! A guy like Lance Davids should not get another chance if he doesn't shine in Durban!
